Google says goodbye to the Pagerank

The PageRank of the past no longer has any meaning for Google, no longer says anything about the rank of a website and also no longer has much relevance with regard to SEO.

What is actually meant by PageRank?

In 1997, one of the founders of Google, Larry Page, developed a Google algorithm. This is to evaluate with a scale of 0 – 10 web pages – thereby websites with the maximum value 10 show the maximum quality. However, only a few sites worldwide have reached the maximum. Not even Google itself reached the maximum value.

In the past, PageRank was an algorithm and stated: “The more links a website receives, the better it is”. So the number of links was evaluated to measure the importance of the page.
Today, the evaluation criteria go in a different direction. Today, pages are rated higher if other pages that Google considers high quality link to them.
So: The value of a page increases if it is linked by valuable pages.

PageRank is virtually useless as a ranking factor today. It has been constantly supplemented by other factors and thus it no longer plays a role with regard to the evaluation of a website. Already since October 2014, PageRank values are no longer up to date. So you can’t really rely on the ranking information anymore.

LONG LIVE THE PAGERANK!

How? I thought PageRank was dead?
No! Google got a patent approved and there will be a new kind of ranking system. The patent is called: “Producing a ranking for pages using distances in a web-link graph”. So, “Producing a ranking for pages using distance in a link graph.”
Now, not only the number and quality of a link are considered, but also the “distance” of the link from the linked page.
The higher quality the link, the more impact it has on the ranking.
Thus, older links are probably more valuable than just freshly placed links, which would lead to the fact that new web projects might have a harder time at first.

It is not yet confirmed whether Google has already activated the patent or whether it is still being developed.

We are curious!
