Sudden ranking failure part 3 the analysis of dealing with affected keywords

A crash in the Google ranking can have various reasons. Identifying these reasons is becoming increasingly difficult for many. Most of the time, it is not the whole page that has crashed:

In the most common cases, only individual parts and sections on the page lose their formerly achieved positions. After explaining in our last post how to find out in which section the crash occurred, we now explain how to determine which keywords are involved and how to solve the problem. In order to correctly interpret the ranking changes, there are three ways to investigate:

OPTION 1: SEARCH QUERIES

Sometimes it is less useful to analyze the page structure and more revealing to evaluate individual keywords. In this way, it can be determined whether the losses may only relate to certain search queries. The easiest way to do this is with a simple pivot table consisting of all collected data. The individual keywords are then sorted according to the principle “keyword with”/”keyword without “. In fact, search intentions that contain a certain word may even win, while others lose. So, this means that not everything on the page is going wrong and some queries are just getting excellent responses.

OPTION 2: ABOUT THE PAGE TYPE

It is also possible that categories or tags of a certain topic in particular lose, for example, pages built on user-generated content. Since the content can be written by any user, users are more reluctant to access this information for certain topics. Thus, the analysis then refers to the individual topics and continues on the principle of “contains keyword X”/”does not contain keyword X”.

FINAL STEP: THE STRATEGY

Once it has been determined how the losses in the Google ranking could occur, the next step is to adjust the SEO measures. What exactly the implementation should look like depends on the particular problem. Therefore, it makes sense to have the development and implementation of the adjustment carried out by an SEO agency.

CONCLUSIONS:

So it is rather unlikely that the entire page crashed – and more likely that only parts or sections of the page lose. So it’s always worth getting to the bottom of the error.
