These Are the Google Changes Happening in May

Starting in May, the previous search engine ranking factors will be combined with the Core Web Vitals. The Core Web Vitals include three UX-based signals and thus spearhead Page Experience as a new ranking factor. For all those who have not yet done anything regarding the new ranking factors at this point in time, no need to despair: rankings will not change overnight after this change.

Danny Sullivan commented on Twitter about the changes Google will be implementing. According to Sullivan, the changes will be gradual, and users and website owners will hardly notice them occurring. Sullivan also mentioned that the new changes are comparable with the changes that Google had made succeeding mobile friendliness. Page experience would only gradually increase in relevance and weight for rankings. Thanks to this, even pages with low-quality user experience ratings would still have a chance to rank well.

Google provides tools such as Publisher or Webmaster for optimizing page experience. Tips for revision and optimization can be found in the Core Web Vitals report or in the Page Speed Insights. For further evaluation or detailed analysis, tools such as Google’s Lighthouse or web.dev tools can be used. By utilizing these tools, you can create relevant content and a valuable UX.
