Double Opt-In

The double opt-in procedure is often used in Germany when creating an e-mail distribution list. For example, a form is created on a website in which users can agree to receive the newsletter (opt-in). An email is then sent to the user’s email address as a control mechanism. This e-mail contains a further declaration of consent to receive the newsletter, which the user must accept (double opt-in). Thus, the user can prove that he has the newsletter sent to his own address.
