SEO: HOW THE RIGHT URL INCREASES GOOGLE RANKING
For a higher and better ranking on Google, an optimized URL is a relevant criterion and of crucial importance.
The URL is the unique identification of a web page on the Internet. The selection of the perfectly optimized URL is not only important for the Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but also user-friendly and easier to read for the search engine and the user.
Here are 5 tips for search engine optimizers to create the perfect URL structure:
1. SHORT URLS
Shorter and uncomplicated URLs rank better on Google’s front page than longer ones. A simple and understandable URL points directly to the content of a web page and makes it easier for Google to crawl it. Long URLs are just complicated and confuse both users and the search engine. Furthermore, long URLs can quickly appear unserious.
2. KEYWORD OPTIMIZATION
3. LESBARKEIT
Care should be taken to use at least 1-2 keywords for a URL. This gives the website a ranking boost. Nevertheless, the number of keywords should be kept in moderation. Instead, it makes sense to focus on only one or two important keywords. Basically, it is said that a website does not get a better ranking for an additional keyword in the URL.
4. CANONICAL URLS
Duplicate content on subpages should be marked with Canoncial URL. This way Google recognizes on which page the main content can be found. This prevents the listing of multiple pages with the same content to a single search result. With these so-called ‘canonical links’ the duplicate content can be marked. The duplicate content is thus protected from exclusion from the Google index and continues to be evaluated as relevant.
5. HTTP VS. HTTPS
Google itself has confirmed that an HTTPS website gets a better ranking. HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) is a more secure variant of HTTP. The data exchanged through an HTTPS page is transmitted over an encrypted and more secure connection. The secure HTTPS pages are indicated with a small locked padlock in the address bar.
