Discover gets to position 1 on Google

Google Discover offers users the option to discover new content, as the English term “Discover” suggests. This content is displayed in the normal search without a previous search query and appears in position -1 of the SERPs.
For SEO, the positions 1 to 10 of the first page are the center. Those who make it into the Featured Snippets at position 0 are promised even more traffic. A specific report should now shed light on how important the positioning on -1 is.

Discover was introduced by Google in 2018. Here, users are shown content based on their previous searches or settings. The content can be videos as well as articles. Discover evaluates the display of such content based on how often it has been clicked on or users have indicated that they would like to see less of such content displayed.

However, these searches are of a completely different nature, which is why they cannot be compared to traditional SERPs, as no search query is taking place. Google employees, however, name the positioning of these ads themselves as position -1. The Discover traffic is thus considered separately.

Google Search is supposed to offer publishers and websites more precise analysis results, which reveal how often the page is shown on Discover, how much traffic is generated and which content scores here. However, these results are only displayed to websites that have achieved significant visibility.

Even though Discover is considered separately with its position on -1 and also cannot be compared to all other content in the SERPs, it is still important for companies to achieve the best possible position in the SERPs, Featured Snippet or Discover.
