Dos Donts for your content 6 questions you should ask yourself for good content

Presumably everyone is convinced of their content – why else would they publish it?

Unfortunately, many people wear rose-coloured glasses when it comes to their own content. While it is easy to criticise the content of the competition, one can hardly find any flaws in one’s own content.

But has it ever occurred to you that, for your competitors, you are the one whose content is considered bad?

We do not want to say that your content is bad. However, you can determine whether it is suitable and good with the help of these 6 questions.

  1. IIs the text relevant to your target group?

ou can write your text in two directions. For yourself or for the reader. Of course, the latter option is the right one.

Because even if you want to convince people of your competence and therefore use a lot of technical terms, for example – at the end of the day, the reader should understand the text. The text should appeal to him. It will not do this if the reader does not understand it.

So the question you should ask yourself before posting the text is:

Is the text written for the reader and does it contain valuable information?

  1. Are your statements backed up with sources?

Since there are more and more black sheep claiming untrue facts, especially in the digital world, readers have become more cautious.

Not everyone can publish a scientific book, but a supposedly scientific online post can. Since authors are often anonymous on the internet, the distrust of the readership is appropriate.

To present yourself as a reputable source, publish reliable sources on your part that underline and confirm your trustworthiness.

And remember: not all sources are the same. If you give untrustworthy sources, you are back to square one. Because dubious sources do not correspond to sources.

  1. Are the images appropriately selected?

Images are a great support for any text. The fact that they interrupt the writing and thus prevent a large block of text is only one of the many advantages.

In addition, images attract the reader’s attention. They can present an infographic and thus provide the reader with information that is not given in the text.

But not every image is suitable. Images that complement the text should be chosen with great care. An unsuitable image will confuse the reader or cause them to draw the wrong conclusions.

Just like every written sentence, every picture should add something to the content.

  1. Do you have competitors?

Before you start writing, you should research whether the topic you have chosen already exists and, if so, in what way it has been dealt with.

Google your topic and find out what the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors’ texts are. Based on the analysis, you now also have a different view of your text.

  1. Do the title and the introduction arouse interest?

It is very important to get the reader on board with a gripping headline. If the reader does not find the headline and introduction fascinating, he will not read the text – no matter how good the content is.

So you have to manage to convince the reader in just a few words and even fewer seconds that your text adds value, is interesting and enriches him.

This can be very difficult – especially with topics that are not particularly exciting or poignant.

So think about several titles and choose the best one.

  1. Is your content optimally designed for the average reader?

Most readers only skim the text, their eyes looking for key words that stand out.

So give the reader the opportunity to find their way around your text, especially if they do not read it in full, but only skim it.

  • Subheadings
  • Paragraphs
  • Listings
  • Short sentences
  • Pictures

will do a lot for your text in terms of readability.
