You’ve Gotta Love SEO

Our detour through the magical world of search engine optimization has now reached an end

It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. This well-known saying is very fitting since our goal was to help you become acquainted with the multifaceted and exciting world of search engine optimization. If you have paid close attention while reading our blog, then you will now be in a position to confidently answer questions to the next person you hear mumbling “SEO, what’s that supposed to be?” And if you’ve paid particularly close attention, you should be ready to give your website the makeover of the century in order to achieve a top ranking on Google and other search engines. But before we review the stops on our trip, let’s take a quick look to see for whom these optimization techniques pay off. SEO can act as a long-term magic potion, but won’t necessarily happen if not done correctly. For some industries, it makes sense to check if an investment of time and energy in SEO is worth it or not.

Online shops with a small product range

If your range of products is smaller than that offered by your competition, then SEO measures will most likely not be worth the trouble. Visitors love variety – they browse the site and compare products. Even if your site was visible in the organic search results because of well-done on- and off-page optimizations, customers would not spend much time on your page, a negative ranking signal for Google. In order to save effort and costs put into SEO, we would advise small companies instead to try search engine advertisement (SEA) or to take a look at other online marketing strategies.

Your keywords have a low search volume and are highly competitive

If the most important keywords in your branch have a low search volume on average and the competition for them is high, we generally prefer to not recommend SEO measures. Your budget would be blown since low search volume means little traffic.

Traditional B2B

Traditional B2B (business-to-business) is definitely the wrong channel for search engine optimization. Here, contracts and customer acquisition is done conventionally via personal contact or conventions. Measures taken to optimize the website in order to achieve a high Google ranking would all be done for nothing since this is not the typical way to make contacts.

Determine if you personally feel it is worth it

To figure out if optimization is worth it in your particular case, there are a few things you can check first. Then you can look to see what the search volume and price per click are for your most important keywords. Higher click prices typically point toward popular keywords, which normally mean good leads and sales. Finally, keyword difficulty tells you how strong the competition is for that term in general. By looking at these, an approximate prognosis of how difficult it will be to get a top ranking on SERPs can be made and used to base a SEO strategy upon.

Besides this, it never hurts to take a look at what your competitors have done. Which keywords and strategies are working for them?

We are now nearing the end of our detour. We have listed the top reasons why considering search engine optimization is always a good idea. We also did some time-traveling, taking a look at the beginnings of SEO. We passed through questionable (and arguably unethical) black hat methods toward white hat SEO, which sets new benchmarks for the future of search engine optimization by respecting search engine policies and also embodies the type of SEO that we love. Furthermore, we dealt with on-page and off-page optimization and technical SEO intensively – the fundament and heart of search engine optimization.

Finally, there’s one thing we can’t say enough: SEO is totally worth it! Sufficient confrontation with this material leads to competent and extensive behind-the-scenes work as well as lots of time, which then leads to long-term success for your company. With that, we will end our detour with the hopes that we have inspired you to start on your own search engine optimization journey!
