Duplicate content is content that is written twice but can be found under different URLs. Duplicate content should be avoided because it can lead to complications when a search engine crawls and scores content.
What counts as duplicate content?
Some search engines can already recognize duplicate content and skip it. However, it should rather be avoided. Duplicate content includes copied texts or texts with partially identical content, content that can be accessed via several domains, identical page titles and descriptions.
What does not count as duplicate content?
The search engine Google does not consider translations, different pages with the same page titles and descriptions as duplicate content. Content in apps or partially regional content are also not evaluated by Google as duplicate content.
What is internal duplicate content?
Internal duplicate content is very similar content within a domain.
What is external duplicate content?
If similar or identical content is found on different domains, this is called external duplicate content. External duplicate content is more problematic for search engines like Google than internal duplicate content.
